I got inside the vehicle. It’s that awful smell again; it makes me nauseous. I just have to lay there quietly as I am being driven away from home by a rich guy. I prefer to be face down, pretending to be asleep. But I always take a sneak peek out of the window without making much movement β€” just a little tilting of my head, one eye taking a glance β€” to see what part of the road we are on. I don’t want the wealthy man to notice I was awake. The nine-year-old me was too shy to…

Alam kong matalino naman akong tao, pero aaminin ko, medyo naging tanga ako sa sitwasyong ito.

Sabi nga nila, β€˜a picture paints a thousand words.’ Pero paano kung tatlong picture of one stupid decision after another? Well, meron ditong mas malalim at mahabang kwento.

Ako si Andrew, nagtapos ako recently sa master’s degree ko na Political Economy sa University of Asia & the Pacific. Actually, dapat last year pa β€˜to.

I have huge respect for artists who write their own songs. And Taylor Swift is one of the best storytellers not just through her music but with the very words she uses as well.

What follows are parts of Taylor’s four heartbreak songs from her albums Red, 1989, reputation, and Lover. Allow me to use my artistic license to insert new verses in them.

I tried to extend the story of each song, coming up with something different but still being true to the songs’ message. I used different approaches for storytelling and varying styles of poetry.

Hi, I’m Romantic. Yup, that’s my name.

Photo by Sandeep Swarnkar on Unsplash

I live in a nameless world, where people and places are identified by anything but a proper noun. It sounds cool and all, but would you still like the idea if you found the love of your life and you don’t even know their name?

β€œSo tell me about the first one, the funny one?” the bartender of The Bar On The 3rd Block asked. This was my safe haven, a hole in the wall that many ignore. We’ve been talking for almost 15 minutes now about how my heart got broken. Twice. Which is a very classic scene in…

Getting the ball trolling for 2022

If you are like me who has made it a noble duty to give a ray of hope in the form of sharing social media posts about the excellent COVID-19 response of the Office of the Vice President (OVP), then we are coming from the same place. And it’s an echo chamber, unfortunately.

To be frank, more than celebrating the brand of leadership Leni Robredo is showcasing, I also repeatedly share any content involving her because I wanted my DDS friends and relatives, who are the usual victims of misinformation as well, to see the genuine public service she is…

I stood in front of your house, such a lovely structure as ever. From the windows, you were staring at me, a familiar stranger. The windows are inviting me to come inside. I’ve always been fascinated by how cool of a challenge it would be to make Lucy Whitmore of 50 First Dates fall in love with me over and over again. Oh god, I didn’t know what I was asking for! This one is real. This one is you.

I have to repeatedly convince myself that Prosopagnosia is a real condition β€” a secret you revealed to me that…

β€œSo what is it that you do for a living?”

β€œI make people feel things, whether good or bad.”

β€œMake them feel, how?”

β€œBy reminding them of the feeling without actually telling them,” she clarified. β€œI was never really the one good with words…but with feelings? I can do it. Pretty well, for that matter! Enough about me. What about you? What do you do?”

I was stunned by the question that followed the longest set of sentences she has ever said throughout the night. I felt shy revealing that we’re two completely different individuals.

β€œWow, quite awkward. Hehe, guess…

The unusual company I learned to befriend during quarantine is the one that I have long neglected: silence.

Photo by Nicolas DmΓtrichev on Unsplash

I’ve always considered the absence of sound as a missed opportunity or a time not well spent. Whenever my ears are free, I feel the need to stimulate them with sound. Background silence or even the simple daily noise of the AC buzzing, the rustling of leaves, or the water on the lawn sprinkling β€” not only doesn’t work for me β€” but they also seem awkward. Why so quiet?!

  • Why just commute when you can also listen to the radio?
  • Why just go to the groceries and not play that Spotify playlist?
  • Why just study when you can also…

The story never really ended when we did.

1.

My firstborn looks like you. Looks EXACTLY like you.

I hope my husband doesn’t notice.

2.

On the day of my wedding, when the priest asked that crucial question to the audience, I was STILL hoping you’d pop up out of nowhere and stop the ceremony.

That was my reason for sending you an invitation.
